A member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), explained that he would be ok with a gay supreme court nominee “as long as it doesn’t interfere with their job, it’s not a particular issue.”  He said the candidate would need to be “satisfied with being an umpire and doesn’t want to be a player.”

The Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn legal precedent put in place since 1907 shows its willingness to go again current law.
